I had a PartyLite candle party a couple weeks ago and all the stuff that everyone ordered arrived last night in one giant box filled with a GAJILLION of those little packing peanuts. Aliyah's little eyes lit up like it was Christmas morning. Once I got all the stuff out of the box, I let her play in it. She couldn't hurt anything, right? She played happily in the box while Brandon and I watched The Biggest Looser on TV. Next thing I know, Aliyah came up to me asking me if I could get the packing peanut out of her nose. I asked how she got one in her nose and she never really gave me a clear answer. So I looked in her nose and I didn't see anything so I told her to go have Daddy look. She went over to Brandon and he looked but didn't see anything either. Aliyah was getting a little freaked out by now b/c she just wanted it out but we didn't really think there was anything in there. Brandon got a kleenex and had Aliyah blow really hard and he pretended that she blew it out in the kleenex. She didn't believe him and kept asking to see it. Brandon finally convinced her that it was all wrapped up in the kleenex and she finally went back to happily playing in the box once again. We never thought about it again...
Until this morning!! Aliyah had been awake for about 30 minutes when she walked up to me with something in her hand. It was all snotty and disgusting and I couldn't tell what it was so I asked her and she delightfully replied, "It's the packing peanut that was in my nose." What!!! I told her to go throw it away and wash her hands really good. I later asked her how it got in her nose and she told me that she stuck it up there herself. I explained that we don't stick anything up our noses to which she asks, "why not?" :-) Little stinker!! So I explained why and she seemed ok with it. We will see if she does it again...cross your fingers! I asked her how she got it out of her nose and she said, "I sneezed and it flew out!" Disgusting but kind of funny :-) I called Brandon at work to tell him what happend and he said, "Oh man, we're bad parents." B/c we didn't even believe her that she had one in her nose. I suppose next time we will listen. I just thank God that it came out and it didn't get stuck in her nose and cause major problems.
I guess we also have a really good story to tell when she gets older :-)....
