I have never been so glad to have a day over with than I am for this day. I have been dreading this day for 2 weeks, which is when we found out Aliyah was having surgery for sure. Aliyah has been really nervous as well but of course I didn't let her know that I was freaking out on the inside as well. I thought I would do fine once we got to the hospital but honestly? I cried. 3 times. Yeah, I'm a big baby. Once when the nurse came to talk to Aliyah and I about the surgery. (Daddy had to wait in the waiting room.) Again when Aliyah wanted Daddy (and not Mommy) before surgery and yet again when they took her back for surgery. Sending your kid off to surgery is scary. I know there are very minimum risks from having your tonsils out but that did not make it any easier. It's still surgery and she was put under completely and cut on.
She is a stubborn girl. She refused to put on the hospital gown and the hair net. It took me several minutes to talk her into putting the gown on but she was NOT going to put the hair net on. Thankfully there was another little girl about Aliyah's age sitting right next to her that had her hair net on. After seeing her, Aliyah finally agree to put it on. Not like she was actually going to have a choice but it definitly made it easier on me!
She got the little duck for being a good lil patient, once she put the hair net on...lol. Her mask smelled like strawberries, which is what they used to put her to sleep.
She thought it was pretty cool and even asked to bring it home, which she got to do! She also asked me if they would put her tonsils in a jar so she could bring them home. Gross!! And the one question she asked the nurse? "Will I still be able to talk after surgery?" That's my Aliyah, worried about not being able to talk!! She would literally die if she could not talk!! The girl talks all day long! =)
Thankfully the surgery itself went really well. The whole staff said she did excellent so I was grateful to hear that. When she was in recovery, every time a nurse came to check on her she would wake up with a smile on her face :) Then she just wanted to go home. She would have left that hospital an hour earlier than they let her if it were up to her. She wanted to get the heck out of there! But she did give the last nurse we saw a hug and told her thank you :) They all deserved a hug in my opinion. They were all excellent and took really good care of her!
She's done really well here at home today as well. I thought she would sleep all day but nope. She didn't sleep at all. She sat and did puzzles for a while and then she did half of her homework. She's got a week and a half of homework to do and the kid got half of it done today! They gave her Tylenol with Codeine and I'm making sure to give it to her about every 5 hours so that it never fully wears off. I don't want her to be in excruciating pain and thankfully she's not :)
