Buzzards Nest

Aliyah's class visited a local farm in town that has an area of woods dedicated to 150 years ago. The area is better known as Buzzards Nest. There were some neat demonstations, but to be honest, it was entirely too cold to pay much attention. It was fuh-reeeeezing out there!! Aliyah kept saying "Mommy, I'm soooooo cold."
First, we got a demonstration on how to make a fire with a striker and a really hard rock.
After just a couple of minutes, he had a pretty good fire going. You can barely see it in the pic but it's blazing.
This guy showed the kids how to throw a tomahawk and sword. Of course, he gave the whole "do NOT try this at home" speech first. You think kindergarteners really listen to that? ;)
Luckily noone was injured in that demonstration...lol.

The kids even got to see a rifle shot. I don't remember exactly what kind of rifle this was. Again, it was too cold to listen...

But first, he had to give a safety demonstration and explain how to load the rifle properly. I don't like guns at all, so I could have skipped this part. Especially since that smoke STUNK!!

Next up was the blacksmith. He showed the kids how to heat metal and bend it.

The kids checking out the animal furs.

I wish I could remember what they called this guy b/c it was a funny name. He demonstrated how to make candles but this was the last demonstration and really the kids could have cared less. Candles take forever to make, at least the ones he was trying to make.

This little girl was NOT happy that I left her this morning. My mom came over to watch her and you would have thought I left her with a complete stranger. She's been so attached to me with this ear infection. She clung to me from the time I got home until it was nap time and even then she was mad when I laid her down and she never cries at nap time. Poor girl.... I thought since she was so attached, that maybe I could get some pictures of her but I was wrong. As soon as she saw the camera, she went and hid in a corner and when she came out, she would NOT look at me. Stinker.
