The Ultrasound Story
We didn't plan on taking Aliyah to the ultrasound last Wednesday. We had discussed it several times and thought it would be best not to take her. Our main reason was b/c she HATES to hear the baby's heartbeat. I don't know why, but it freaks her out. She gets scared every time. Also we weren't sure how she would react to seeing the baby on a computer screen. I had arranged for my Mom to come to our house to watch her. About 10 minutes before Brandon and I were going to leave, Aliyah decided that she wanted to go and she did NOT want to stay with Grandma. I quickly explained to her what was going to happen and that we would be hearing the baby's heartbeat. She seemed ok with it. Then she came up to me with one of her kids magazines that she gets in the mail every month and showed me a little story in there and asked if that was what I was talking about. There was a little story about a little boy whose Mommy was having an ultrasound done. The story had several pictures of the Mommy getting the ultrasound and it explained the process. I was completely surprised that Aliyah went and got that magazine so I thought "maybe she will be ok." So off we go to the doctor with Aliyah in tow. We get called back to the room and as soon as the nurse walked in my room with the doppler machine in her hand, Aliyah immediately started saying, "I changed my mind, I wanna go home now!" I had no idea what we were going to do b/c my doctor is in another town than what we live in. Brandon ended up calling his mom at work (luckily she works in the same town as my doctor) and his mom was able to come get Aliyah and take her back to work with her while we were at the doctor. That was such a lifesaver!!! Thanks Grandma Donna!! So Aliyah got to hang out with her Grandma at her work for almost 2 hours. Now she wants to go to work with her all the time :) I learned my lesson: don't take Aliyah to a prenatal appointment with me EVER again...even is she is kicking and screaming her head off!
The Hair Story
Thursday was my birthday. We were getting ready to go to my Mom's for supper when I walked in Aliyah's room to get her ready and found HAIR all over the floor!!!! I looked around for scissors and found the tiny baby nail scissors lying on the floor under a blanket. I was just thinking a few weeks ago how I didn't think Aliyah would ever cut her own hair...boy was I wrong?! She is almost 4 years old and has had nothing more than the very ends of her hair trimmed and that has only been a couple times. She DOESN'T WANT her hair cut and she will tell you that. Her hair is almost to the middle of her back and I just love it. It curls so perfectly at the bottom. At first I thought "how bad could it be, I didn't even notice that her hair had been cut." But man was there a LOT of hair on the floor. I asked her what she did and she was real quiet about it but finally confessed that she had done it. I looked at her hair and found where she had cut it which was on the left side of her head and it is now considerably shorter than the other side. She also put a few layers in the back of her hair. I never even considered going to have it all evened out b/c her hair would then be above her shoulders...cutting off a good 6 inches or more!! I suppose it's not too bad b/c not one person has noticed on their own. People can tell after I point it out. I will definitly never forget that Aliyah cut her own hair on MY birthday. I saved the hair to put in her scrapbook. There was hair all over the place and Brandon was the one who picked it up. I think he got what he could.
Here is the pile of hair we ended up with. Look at those curls she cut off :(

I kinda wish I would have taken pictures of the hair lying all over the floor and of Aliyah's hair right after she did it but I didn't. I think I was too sad to think about the camera.

Great stories - thanks for sharing. Two of my girls have cut their own hair and it wasn't pretty!
You are too funny! It IS sad about her hair though- I would be DEVASTATED if Kaitlyn cut her hair! *hugs*
Thanks for the stories...I bet the swoosh-swoosh of the heartbeat is a strange sounds to kiddos, didn't think of it that way, but makes perfect sense.
When my cousin was about 2 years old, her mom always put her hair in a pony tail right on top of her head... well her older sister got ahold of a pair of scissors and cut the pony tail right off! So, the hair on the top of her head was seriously like 1/2 inch long!!!
I just love your stories...so wonderful and they add so much to the pictures. Oh those curls! Its so hard to watch them get cut off.
Great stories...I have to add my dd did this a week before she was going to be a flower girl in my sister wedding...oh and my best friend did this to me when I was little!

Awesome stories! Thanks for sharing!!
Funny what kids are scared of, huh? They all seem to go through the hair cutting thing, too.
Fun stories! My DD cut her bangs the day we were getting Easter pics taken. Unfortunately she has a big cowlick right where she cut it. So she ended up with hair sticking straight out for a good 3-4 months. I decided to take pics of it and told her it was so I could show Daddy what she did.
well glad you wrote those down so you wouldn't forget! look at the curlies!!!!
my girls never ever did that! i am so GLAD!

Awww.. the curls, gone! Cute post. t fs.
Thank goodness for Brandon's mom!! Poor thing is afraid of the hb hu? If you think about it, I can see how it would be scary to a child. Some strange weird noise. Happy belated birthday to you.. Sorry you celebrated with an unplanned hair cut.. Write that one down in her baby book for sure!
Great stories, and what a great way to capture ALL the memories of life with little ones. Can't wait to see the photos of Aliyah!
