Big Mommy Moment

I had a big Mommy moment yesterday. I have been working with Aliyah off and on for about 6 months trying to teach her how to write her name. She caught on to writing the A, l, and i right away. Then she would get to y and she couldn't do it. She would get frustrated and just quit. I tried so many different things and nothing worked. I finally just left her alone for the last few weeks. We went to good 'ole Wally World Friday night and I came across some teacher supplies for teaching letters and sight words. One thing is a magnetic wipe off board that came with magnetic letters and lines on one side for writing. I bought some colorful wipe off markers for her to write on the board with. The other thing is a stand up easel with pockets that came with letters, pictures of objects, and sight words (you can see it in the corner of the first pic a little). Even better, they were on clearance! O yes, I love a good bargain!! :) I thought these new things might get Aliyah a little more interested in learning letters and writing. Boy, was I right! As soon as she saw them, she wanted to use them. I sat down with her yesterday afternoon and it took about 5 minutes before she was writing her name all on her own!! I showed her a couple different ways she could make a Y and she picked the way that was easier for her and no more frustration!! She was so proud of herself, she just kept writing her name over and over in every different color marker. The first thing she did this morning was get her wipe off board and markers and started writing her name again. I just love teaching Aliyah how to do things and I couldn't be a prouder momma right now ;) . The next thing is to get her to recognize all the letters of the alphabet. She knows about half of them right now.

Her name in every color ;)

Pretty good for a just-turned-4-year-old :)
